The B.Sc. (Ed.) Accounting programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and professional competence needed to teach accounting and related business subjects effectively. The programme combines core accounting principles with educational theory and instructional methods, preparing you both as an accounting specialist and as a trained educator.
You will develop a strong foundation in financial accounting, cost accounting, taxation, auditing, business law, management principles and entrepreneurship. Alongside this, you will gain pedagogical skills in curriculum design, teaching methods, classroom management and educational technology. This blend enables you to teach accounting concepts confidently, prepare learners for business careers and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic and educational development.
Course Overview
The programme integrates professional accounting training with teacher education. You will explore accounting systems, financial reporting, auditing procedures, cost and management accounting, taxation and business decision-making. At the same time, you will learn how to communicate business concepts, develop instructional materials and facilitate effective learning in secondary schools and vocational institutions.
The programme runs for four years through UTME and three years through Direct Entry.
Throughout your studies, you will participate in practicum sessions, micro-teaching, teaching practice, school observations and ICT-based accounting applications. These experiences help you develop both technical expertise and teaching proficiency.

Entry Requirements
To gain admission into the B.Sc. (Ed.) Accounting programme, you must satisfy one of the following entry pathways:
1. UTME Admission (Four-Year Programme)
- You must have at least five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and any other relevant Commercial or Social Science subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings.
- Sit for the UTME with English Language and other relevant subjects such as Accounting, Commerce or Economics.
- Meet the departmental and university cut-off marks.
- Demonstrate interest and aptitude for accounting, business studies and teaching.
- Satisfy all other general admission requirements of the University.
2. Direct Entry Admission (Three-Year Programme)
- You must have five credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics and other relevant subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings.
- Possess NCE, ND or equivalent qualifications in Accounting, Business Education or related fields with at least a merit or credit grade.
- Hold Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects such as Accounting, Economics or Business Management.
- Provide academic transcripts and supporting documents during the application.
- Meet the University’s general Direct Entry admission regulations.

- Interpret data using accounting and educational frameworks.
- Present your findings in a well-structured and academically rigorous project report.
Your research project represents the culmination of your professional training, preparing you for roles in teaching, financial administration, business training and further studies in accounting or education.
Graduation Requirements
To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Education (Accounting), you must fulfil the graduation requirements approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Academic Requirements
- Complete and pass all compulsory and elective courses in the programme.
- Earn the minimum credit units prescribed for the four-year degree (UTME) or three-year degree (Direct Entry).
- Maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00.
- Complete and defend your final-year research project.
- Fulfil all practical requirements, including micro-teaching, accounting laboratory tasks and teaching practice.
