B.Sc. (Ed.) Physical Education

The B.Sc. (Ed.) Physical Education programme prepares you to become a knowledgeable, skilled and professional educator in physical activity, sports, fitness and human movement. You will study the scientific, pedagogical and psychological foundations of physical education while developing the practical competence needed to teach, coach and promote healthy lifestyles across different age groups.

The programme equips you to understand motor learning, sports techniques, health and fitness principles, human anatomy and physiology, recreation management and the role of physical activity in personal and community wellbeing. Course Overview

The B.Sc. (Ed.) Physical Education programme integrates the science of human movement with the art of teaching. You will learn how to deliver safe, effective and developmentally appropriate physical activities, while gaining the skills needed to coach sports, organise recreational programmes and manage school-based physical education curricula.

The programme runs for four years through UTME and three years through Direct Entry.

Entry Requirements

To gain admission into the B.Sc. (Ed.) Physical Education programme, you must satisfy one of the following entry pathways:

1. UTME Admission (Four-Year Programme)

  1. You must have at least five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Physical Education and any other relevant Science or Social Science subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings.
    Sit for the UTME with English Language and other relevant subjects such as Biology, Physical Education or related sciences.
  2. Meet the departmental and university cut-off marks.
  3. Demonstrate interest and aptitude in sports, human movement, fitness and health education.
  4. Satisfy all general admission requirements of the University.

2. Direct Entry Admission (Three-Year Programme)

  1. You must have five credit passes, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Physical Education and other acceptable subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings.
  2. Possess NCE, ND or equivalent qualification in physical education, human kinetics, health education or related fields with at least a merit or credit grade.
  3. Hold Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects such as biology or physical education (where applicable).
  4. Provide academic transcripts and supporting documents as part of your application.
  5. Meet the university’s general Direct Entry admission regulations.

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Science (Education) in Physical Education, you must fulfil the graduation requirements approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Olabisi Onabanjo University.

  1. Complete and pass all compulsory and elective courses in the programme.
  2. Earn the minimum credit units prescribed for the four-year UTME route or the three-year Direct Entry route.
  3. Maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.00.
  4. Complete and defend your final-year research project.
  5. Fulfil all teaching practice, seminar and fieldwork requirements of the programme.
