Course Overview

The B.Sc. Fine and Applied Arts programme runs for four academic years (eight semesters) and follows the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) prescribed by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This degree combines theoretical study with hands-on studio experience in painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphics, printmaking, and digital design. You will develop your artistic identity through personal projects, workshops, exhibitions, and field trips that expose you to the realities of the creative industry.

Entry Requirements

Admission into the B.Sc. Fine and Applied Arts programme is offered through either the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or the Direct Entry route.

1. UTME Entry (Five-Year Programme)

  1. Candidates must possess five (5) credit passes at not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Fine Art, and any two (2) of Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Geography, Economics, Biology, or any Nigerian Language.
  2. Applicants must register for and sit the UTME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
  3. The required UTME subjects are English Language, Fine Art, and any two (2) of Chemistry, Geography, Economics, or Biology.
  4. Successful candidates must also pass the university’s Post-UTME screening exercise before being considered for admission.

2. Direct Entry (Four-Year Programme)

  1. Candidates must possess a National Diploma (ND) or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with at least Upper Credit or Merit in relevant disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textile Design, or Industrial Design.
  2. Advanced Level (A-Level) passes in relevant subjects may also be accepted.
  3. Direct Entry applicants will be admitted into the 200 Level of the programme after participating in the university’s Direct Entry screening exercise.

Graduation Requirements

To be awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Fine and Applied Arts, you must meet the following requirements:

Academic requirements

  1. Complete and pass all core, elective, and general studies courses prescribed in the approved curriculum.
  2. Accumulate a minimum of 120 credit units for UTME entrants and at least 90 credit units for Direct Entry students.
  3. Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 1.50 on a 5.00 scale.
  4. Complete the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
  5. Present and defend a final-year project consisting of a studio exhibition and written research report.
