Our Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Agricultural Economics and Farm Management course is designed for students who want to understand how agriculture connects with economics, business, and policy.
If you are curious about how farmers make decisions, how markets work, and how agricultural enterprises can be managed efficiently, this programme equips you with the tools to succeed in agriculture and agribusiness.
Course Overview
The course runs for four years (or three years for Direct Entry students) and combines agricultural sciences with economics, management, and business studies. You will learn how to analyse agricultural production, evaluate farm enterprises, and make informed decisions about resource allocation, investment, and policy in agriculture.
The programme focuses on topics such as micro- and macroeconomics, farm management, rural development, agricultural finance, marketing, and policy analysis. You will also gain practical experience through farm practice and industry training, ensuring that you not only understand theory but can also apply it to real-life challenges in the agricultural sector.
By graduation, you will have the knowledge and skills to manage farms, work in agribusiness companies, contribute to agricultural policy, or pursue careers in rural development.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum follows the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) of the National Universities Commission (NUC). It integrates agricultural sciences, economics, business management, and practical training.
Your first year builds a foundation in agriculture and social sciences:

Here you develop deeper insights into economics and farm management:

At this stage, you gain applied knowledge of agricultural systems:

In your final year, you consolidate your knowledge with strategic and policy-focused courses:

- Research Project in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management
Practical training is also central to this programme. You will participate in the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and farm practice modules, giving you real-world exposure to agricultural enterprises and rural communities.
Entry Requirements
Admission into the programme can be through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry:
1. UTME Entry (Four-Year Programme):
- You must have five credit passes at not more than two sittings in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. These must include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one other relevant subject such as Physics, Geography, or Economics.
- You must sit for the UTME with the correct subject combination: English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics, Physics, or Economics.
- You must also pass the University’s Post-UTME screening exercise.
2. Direct Entry (Three-Year Programme):
- You may be admitted into 200 Level with passes at the GCE Advanced Level (A-Level) or its equivalent in at least two subjects chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, or Agricultural Science.
- Holders of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualifications in Agriculture or related disciplines may also be considered, provided they meet the O’Level requirements.

Research Project
In your final year, you will complete a supervised research project in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management. This project gives you the chance to explore real-world issues such as resource use efficiency, agricultural marketing systems, farm productivity, agricultural finance, or policy evaluation.
The project builds your ability to conduct independent research, analyse data, and present solutions that can improve decision-making in agriculture. It also prepares you for further studies or careers in agricultural policy, farm consultancy, and agribusiness management.
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, you must:
- Successfully complete a minimum of four academic sessions (or three for Direct Entry students).
- Pass all required courses in agricultural sciences, economics, management, and related areas.
- Accumulate the minimum credit units prescribed in the curriculum, including general studies, core and elective courses, and farm practice.
- Complete the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and other fieldwork requirements.
- Undertake and successfully defend a supervised final-year research project.
- Maintain good academic standing, discipline, and compliance with university regulations.
Your final classification will be determined by your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), which decides whether you graduate with First Class, Second Class (Upper or Lower), or Third Class Honours.

1. UTME Entry (Four-Year Programme):
- Register for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
- Select Agricultural Economics and Farm Management as your course of study and choose the University as your first choice.
- Sit for the UTME with the subject combination: English Language, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one of Mathematics, Physics, or Economics.
- Apply for and pass the university’s Post-UTME screening exercise.
2. Direct Entry (Three-Year Programme):
- Apply through JAMB Direct Entry, selecting Agricultural Economics and Farm Management.
- Provide evidence of A-Level passes, National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or equivalent qualifications in agriculture or related fields.
- Participate in the university’s screening process and upload all necessary documents.
