OOU Student Emerges 2nd Overall at Nigeria Universities SDG Championship 2026
Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State — Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) is proud to announce the outstanding performance of one of its students, Adebayo Abdulsalam, at the Nigeria Universities SDG Championship 2026, a national competition that brought together participating students from over 50 universities across the country.
The Nigeria Universities SDG Championship is a platform that engages Nigerian undergraduates on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), challenging them to research, write, and present original essays and proposals addressing the country’s development priorities.
Abdulsalam, a student of the Department of Library and Information Science, represented the University at the championship and was selected among the Top 6 finalists nationwide, before going on to emerge in 2nd position overall.
His essay and presentation were built around the theme “Achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Accelerating Action and Shaping the Post-2030 Development Agenda”, which he approached through the lens of Quality Education, Mental Health, and Youth Leadership.
The University describes the result as a reflection of the calibre of students it continues to produce, noting that Abdulsalam’s performance demonstrated intelligence, depth of research, and a clear-eyed engagement with issues central to Nigeria’s development, from access to quality education to youth mental health and leadership.
