The Visitor

Prince Adedapo Oluseun Abiodun, MFR, Governor of Ogun State, Nigeria, was born on Sunday, 29th May, 1960 into the family of Dr. Emmanuel and Mrs. Victoria Abiodun of Iperu-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government of Ogun State. Both parents were teachers.

He had his primary and secondary education in Nigeria and a tertiary education that started at the prestigious University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Osun State, and later continued at the Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, where he graduated with a BBA in Accounting in 1986.

Dapo began his career with Glock Inc. USA, where he worked as Cost Accountant between 1989-1991. Thereafter, he returned to Nigeria and immediately embarked on entrepreneurship voyage. He was Chairman of a number of successful businesses, which include Crestar Hydrocarbons Limited, OMS-Heyden Exploration and Production Limited, Heyden Petroleum Limited, Alarmnet and Innovative Ventures Limited, and First Power Limited.

Governor Abiodun has taken a proactive interest in higher education and institutional development. On 3 March 2022, he commended OOU for maintaining a stable academic calendar, thereby reinforcing the university’s role as a leading institution in the region.

Role as Visitor of OOU

As Visitor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, His Excellency serves in a ceremonial as well as oversight capacity. In this role, he:

  1. Provides moral and strategic guidance to the university’s governing council and management.
  2. Ensures that the university remains aligned with national education objectives and state development priorities.
  3. Promotes collaboration between the university and the Ogun State government, especially in the areas of infrastructure, research, and community engagement.
  4. Celebrates and recognises the achievements of students, faculty and alumni, reinforcing the university’s mission of academic excellence and societal relevance.

Vision & Commitment

Governor Abiodun’s leadership philosophy emphasises accountability, innovation and service. Under his stewardship, Ogun State has pursued growth in infrastructure, youth empowerment and educational reform, commitments that extend directly to OOU’s strategic priorities. In his capacity as university visitor, he envisages an institution that:

  2. Operates in facilities that are modern, inclusive and research-enabled.
  3. Engages actively in the socio-economic advancement of Ogun State and the nation at large.
