OOU Holds 2-Day Workshop for Early Career Academic Staff

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, held a two-day workshop for early career academic staff as part of its continued commitment to strengthening teaching, research, innovation, mentorship, and digital competence among its academic workforce.

The workshop, themed “Enhancing Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: Innovative Pedagogies and Digital Practices for the 21st Century,” took place from 28th to 29th April, 2026, at OGD Hall, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye.

The programme was widely attended by members of staff across the University, reflecting the institution’s strong commitment to continuous professional development and academic excellence.

The opening session featured the observance of protocols, a welcome address by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and opening remarks by the Vice-Chancellor. The workshop brought together experienced scholars and resource persons who delivered presentations on key areas relevant to modern university teaching and academic development.

On the first day, presentations focused on topics such as academic culture and professional ethics, methodology and innovative pedagogies in higher education, effective use of technology in teaching, research, innovation and partnership, risk and wellness management for academics, and grant writing and grantsmanship through interdisciplinary approaches.

Resource persons for the first day included Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, Prof. Taiwo Edun, Dr. Daisy K. Olurinola, Prof. Richard A. Aborisade, Prof. Tinuade A. Ogunlesi, and Prof. Joseph S. Ashidi.

The second day of the workshop featured further presentations on academic mentorship, 21st century skills in university teaching, quality assurance in the university system, attitude and relationship as strategic tools for impact, and artificial intelligence and the digital community.

The speakers for the second day included Emeritus Prof. Adetola O. Olatunji, Prof. Najeem A. A. Babatunde, Prof. Ayodeji P. Ifegbesan, Dr. Semiu M. Bello, and Dr. Sakinat O. Folorunso.

The workshop provided an important platform for early career academics to learn from senior scholars, engage with emerging trends in higher education, and improve their capacity for effective teaching, research, mentorship, and service. It also emphasized the need for academic staff to embrace innovation, digital tools, ethical conduct, and collaborative research practices in order to meet the demands of 21st century higher education.

Participants commended the University Management for organizing the workshop, describing it as timely, impactful, and relevant to their professional growth.
