Course Overview

The B.Sc. Transport Management course runs for four years (or three years for Direct Entry students). It prepares you to understand the theories and practical applications of transport systems and logistics, both locally and globally.

You will study topics such as transport economics, transport policy and planning, traffic management, logistics and supply chain management, maritime transport, aviation management, and environmental issues in transport. The course also emphasises the use of technology and data in managing modern transportation systems.

By the end of the programme, you will have the skills to manage operations in transport companies, government agencies, logistics firms, and international trade organisations. The course also provides a solid foundation for postgraduate studies in transport, logistics, and related fields.

Course Curriculum

The curriculum is built on the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

It combines general education with specialised courses in transport and logistics, alongside practical exposure through the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

You will also take part in the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), where you gain hands-on experience in organisations such as logistics firms, aviation companies, maritime agencies, and government transport departments.

Entry Requirements

Admission into the B.Sc. Transport Management programme can be through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry:

1. UTME Entry (Four-Year Programme):

  1. You must have at least five credit passes in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent, at not more than two sittings. These must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and two other relevant subjects such as Geography, Government, or Commerce.
  2. You must sit for the UTME with the correct subject combination: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and one other relevant subject.
  3. You must also pass the University’s Post-UTME screening exercise.

2. Direct Entry (Three-Year Programme):

  1. You may be admitted into 200 Level if you have passes at the GCE Advanced Level (A-Level) or its equivalent in at least two subjects such as Economics, Geography, or Mathematics.
  2. Holders of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or other recognised qualifications in relevant fields may also be considered, provided they meet the O’Level requirements.

Research Project

The project allows you to apply classroom theories to practical challenges, develop independent research skills, and contribute to solutions that can improve transport management locally and globally. It also helps you prepare for careers in transport, logistics, and policy, or for postgraduate studies in related fields.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Transport Management, you must:

  1. Successfully complete at least four academic sessions (or three for Direct Entry students).
  2. Earn the minimum credit units required, which include general studies, compulsory and elective transport courses, and the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
  3. Pass all required courses in transport studies, logistics, economics, and management.
  4. Complete and successfully defend your final-year research project.
  5. Maintain satisfactory conduct and comply with all university academic regulations.

Your final classification will be based on your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), which determines whether you graduate with First Class, Second Class (Upper or Lower), or Third Class Honours.

2. Direct Entry (Three-Year Programme):

  1. Apply through JAMB Direct Entry, selecting Transport Management.
