The Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP) is a strategic arm of the university entrusted with the responsibility of driving academic growth and ensuring effective planning across all spheres of the University’s operations. The Directorate provides direction in academic development, facilitates compliance with regulatory standards, and ensures that the University’s programmes remain innovative, relevant, and competitive within the Nigerian and global educational landscape.

The Directorate of Academic Planning is central to sustaining the University’s commitment to academic quality assurance, institutional effectiveness, and strategic growth. By bridging policy formulation, regulatory compliance, and academic development, the DAP ensures that Olabisi Onabanjo University remains at the forefront of higher education delivery in Nigeria.
Our History
The National Universities Commission (NUC) Decree No. 16 of 1985 and Decree No. 49 of 1988, which empowered it to: “lay down minimum academic standards for all Universities in the Federation and to accredit their degrees and other academic awards” hence the creation of the Directorate of Academic Planning.
The unit is connected to all Departments and Arms of the University. The Directorate is the hub of academic activities at Olabisi Onabanjo University and is headed by a Director who is ably assisted by a Deputy Registrar and other supportive staff.

Our Mission
The mission of the Directorate of Academic Planning is to establish an integrated planning mechanism for the accomplishment of the goals of the University in order to ensure the operations are directed towards achieving stated objectives.
Mandate and Core Responsibilities
Academic planning outlines the university’s overall academic goals and how those goals will be met. It establishes both short-term and long-term objectives to match the goals of the university with the needs of learners. It ensures that the content of academic programmes, facilities, human and other resources are of an acceptable standard for conducive teaching, learning and research for the sustenance of quality education.
The statutory duties of the directorate include:
- Considering proposals for the introduction of new programmes, the creation of Departments, and the establishment of faculties.
- Recommending to the Development Committee policies, criteria, and order of priorities in the academic development of the University, and keeping them under constant review.
- Recommending desirable changes in the academic structures of the University.
- Considering other academic planning matters referred by the Development Committee.
These roles are accomplished through the coordination of the following:
- Accreditation of Degree Programmes.
- Brief preparation for the university.
- Curriculum Development and Evaluation.
- Database Management.
- Ensures adequate provision of a conducive teaching, learning and research environment.
- Focuses attention of the University on objectives and results.
- Guides each Department on the requirements for accreditation.
- Helps anticipate problems and proffer solution(s).
- Initiation of policies for identified priorities in the academic development of the University.
- Joining the Committee of Directors of Academic Planning of Nigeria Universities (CODAPNU).
- Keeps the University abreast of directives from NUC.
- Liaison with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and JAMB on behalf of the university.
- Monitors the university’s operations in accordance with its statutory goals.
- Networks with affiliates in curriculum development.
- Organisation of workshops/trainings for staff and students.
- Preparation and Publication of the University’s Academic Brief.
- Qualitative implementation of Senate directives on programmes.
- Resource verification of new programmes.
- Supply of staff and students’ data to NUC for planning.
- Training of academic staff on curriculum development and implementation CCMAS.
- Updating all necessary statistics for the university’s developmental plans.
- Verification of resources for new programmes.
Expanded Functions
Beyond its statutory responsibilities, the Directorate has continued to expand its operations to support the University’s academic excellence and compliance with regulatory bodies. These additional responsibilities include:
- Data Management: Harvesting student enrolment data on sectional and level bases.
- Capacity Building: Organising training programmes for academic staff on the implementation of BMASS and CCMAS.
- Curriculum Oversight: Updating CCMAS entry requirements for all new and existing programmes of the University on the JAMB portal.
- Regulatory Compliance: Coordinating NUC resource verification and accreditation exercises for both new and existing academic programmes.
- Curriculum Development: Processing Faculties’ curricula of new programmes through the Sub-Committee of the Development Committee.
- Statistical Reporting: Collecting and preparing statistical digest data for the National Universities Commission (NUC).
- Accreditation Readiness: Coordinating mock accreditation for academic programmes due for NUC accreditation.
Stakeholder Engagement – Attending to data and information requests from the NUC, students, and other stakeholders. - Convocation Documentation: Compiling academic lists of existing programmes, Departments, faculties, and colleges for inclusion in the Convocation Brochure.
- Policy Innovation: Developing the proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy for the University.
- Human Resource Planning: Supporting University Management on staff appointments to maintain appropriate staff/student ratios.
Monitoring & Evaluation – Preparing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) reports for submission to the Ministry of Budget and Planning.

The Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP) is currently under the leadership of Professor Najeem Abiola Adesola Babarinde, who has been serving as the Director since 2023. Professor Babarinde is a distinguished Nigerian scholar, academic leader, and Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences, OOU, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. With a career spanning over three decades in teaching, research, and University administration, he has established himself as a leading authority in Biophysical Chemistry, Environmental Remediation, and Chemical education.
Over the years, he has combined rigorous scholarship with administrative excellence, producing groundbreaking research, nurturing a new generation of scientists, and contributing significantly to policy development in Nigerian higher education. His multidisciplinary expertise has extended into artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, academic quality assurance, and higher education capacity building, making him a versatile academic and administrator of global repute.
