The Department of Computer Engineering is one of the pioneering Departments in the Faculty of Engineering, College of Engineering and Environmental Studies (CEES) at Olabisi Onabanjo University. It is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community service, preparing graduates with strong theoretical knowledge and practical skills in computing, electronics, and intelligent systems.
The Department plays a vital role in producing highly skilled engineers who can design, develop, and deploy innovative computing and engineering solutions to address national and global challenges in technology, industry, and society.

Dr Abisola Ayomide Olayiwola is a Lecturer I in the Department of Computer Engineering at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. She holds a Ph.D. in Intelligent Systems Engineering (2019) from Obafemi Awolowo University, following an M.Sc. in Computer Science (2015) and a B.Tech. in Computer Engineering (2009).
Her teaching and research span Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Natural Language Processing, Embedded Systems, and Indigenous Language Technologies. She has over four years of university teaching experience, complemented by prior industry and research experience as a Project Officer with INDEHELA-ICI (Informatics Development for Health in Africa).
Dr. Olayiwola’s research focuses on developing intelligent systems that address real-world societal challenges. Her contributions include:
- Indigenous Language Technologies: Developed a Yorùbá grammar checker and an animated Yorùbá language learning system, advancing computational linguistics for low-resource languages.
- Assistive Technologies: Designed a smart walking stick with Yorùbá voice guidance for visually impaired persons, enhancing accessibility and cultural inclusion.
- IoT and Smart Systems: Worked on home automation systems in Nigerian languages, smart irrigation, and plant disease detection, applying AI and IoT to agriculture, sustainability, and health.
- Ongoing Research: Leading projects on automatic medicinal plant identification using deep learning and advanced AI models for signature verification.
She has published extensively in reputable journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters, with works spanning university-based, TETFUND-sponsored, and international outlets.
