The department deals with raw materials, dosage forms and their preparations using current Good Manufacturing Practice. The objectives of this department are:
- To provide high-quality training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the art and science of dispensing, drug delivery and dosage form design.
- To train students in the principles and practice of industrial pharmacy
- To undertake research in the development of pharmaceuticals from synthetic and natural products
- To provide professional counselling services to the food, pharmaceutical and allied industries.
- To provide and sustain an enabling environment for research.
Academic Programmes
The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology. Undergraduate students are exposed to practicals in dispensing and formulations of different dosage forms. Postgraduate students conduct innovative research.

Oluyemisi Aebowale Bamiro is a Professor of Pharmaceutics in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Olabisi Onabanjo University. She joined the university in 2002 after practising in the hospital (4 years) and community (8 years). Prof. Bamiro is a graduate of the University of Ibadan with a B.Pharm (1988), a master’s (2002) and a PhD in Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy (2011).
She has several journal articles and book chapters to her credit. Her research interests are formulation, excipients, drug delivery, polymers and nanotechnology. She had her postdoc at Union University Jackson, Tennessee, USA and she was a recipient of INSA-JRD TATA award (2009).
