The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is a nationally recognised one-year Advanced Level programme that provides a direct pathway into 200-level undergraduate study. It offers a rigorous academic curriculum built around key subject combinations that prepare candidates for university-level work. The programme is designed as an alternative to the UTME route and is accepted by many universities across Nigeria.
JUPEB at OOU
At OOU, the JUPEB programme is hosted under the Centre for Continuing Education and Development (CCED) and is delivered at the Mini Campus. The programme equips students with the advanced academic grounding they need to gain Direct Entry admission into various colleges and faculties of the university. Upon successful completion of the programme and the national JUPEB examinations, candidates become eligible to apply for 200-level admission into approved OOU programmes, subject to departmental requirements.
Why the JUPEB Programme Exists
JUPEB was created to expand access to university education and provide a reliable alternative to UTME. It is especially valuable for students who want a more focused academic path or who missed regular admission opportunities. JUPEB exists to:
- Offer a credible, structured pathway into university through Direct Entry.
- Provide advanced academic preparation that improves students’ readiness for degree-level study.
- Reduce reliance on the annual UTME cycle by giving students an additional admission route.
- Support candidates who need more time to strengthen their academic foundation.
- Create opportunities for learners to balance work, personal commitments, or educational gaps.

Candidates seeking admission into the OOU JUPEB programme must have:
- A minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language, obtained at not more than two sittings in SSCE/WASSCE, GCE, or NECO.
