Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) Programme
The CCED offers flexible academic pathways, including weekend and weekday part-time degrees, JUPEB, pre-degree, and advanced certificate programmes, designed to accommodate working professionals, adult learners, and students preparing for full-time university admission.
The Centre for Continuing Education and Development (CCED) provides flexible, high-quality academic opportunities designed to accommodate learners outside the traditional full-time system. Whether you are a working professional, a mature learner, or preparing to gain direct admission into the university, CCED offers a structured path to achieving your educational goals.
The Centre is home to a range of part-time and foundational programmes tailored to meet the diverse needs of students seeking access to undergraduate study or professional development. Our programmes are carefully designed to maintain the same academic standards as the university’s full-time offerings, while allowing for flexibility in schedule and delivery.
Programme Types
The Centre operates through four major arms. All programmes are delivered by qualified and experienced academic staff, with access to the university’s learning resources, online platforms, and support services.
1. Weekend Part-Time Programme
This programme is ideal for employed individuals or those engaged in other weekday commitments. Lectures are held on weekends, making it convenient to pursue a university degree without interrupting professional or personal responsibilities.
2. Weekday Part-Time Programme
For those with more flexibility during the week, this programme provides a full academic experience on selected weekdays, following the university’s part-time academic calendar.
3. Pre-Degree & JUPEB Programme
This foundational programme is designed for students seeking university admission through direct entry. It prepares candidates for 200-level admission into OOU and other partner universities upon successful completion of the JUPEB examination or the internal pre-degree assessment.
4. Advanced Certificate Programme
This unit offers diplomas, certificates, and professional programmes in various disciplines. It is suitable for learners looking to gain new qualifications, retrain in a new field, or build upon existing skills for career advancement.

Our History
The Centre for Continuing Education comprising of former Pre-Degree Science (PDS) and former Centre for Sandwich Programmes (CESAP) could be traced to a vision to put qualitative university education on the wheels and make it readily available to the Nigerian populace in particular. Consequent upon this, the University Senate by its decision of December 28, 1995 approved that all Sandwich and Part-Time programmes be brought under a Management Board.
In July 2012, CESAP and PDS were brought together and renamed it as Centre for Continuing Education (CCED) with three units namely Part-Time Studies, Certificate and Diploma Studies and Pre-Degree Studies. The Centre is located in the former mini campus of the University.
