A team of 400 level students of the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, have emerged winners of this year’s CIPM National Undergraduate Quiz Competition which was organised in Abuja by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) Nigeria.
The team, comprising Venessa Emonyon, Abdulmalik Disu and Oluwatofunmi Sami, won the national competition recently after previously emerging winners of the South West Regional Quiz Competition which featured over 20 universities. The champions were also honoured with a cash prize of N500,000 each.
In recognition of their exceptional performance, the team was officially presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, on Thursday, 20th November, 2025 by the Dean, Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences, Prof. Muse Solanke, who was accompanied by the Head of Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management, Dr. Aramide Kuforiji, among other academic staff.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the trio for winning the regional and national competitions and for making the University proud. He said the remarkable feat demonstrated the dedication, talent and academic prowess of the students and also reinforced the University’s commitment to excellence.
Prof. Agboola noted that the award would serve as an inspiration to the entire University Community. He, therefore, announced a donation of N100,000 each to the students on behalf of the University Management and equally made a personal donation of N50,000 each to them.
“Today, we are receiving you in the Senate Chamber; this is the highest seat you can ever hope to sit in the University system. So, giving you the honour of sitting down here shows clearly that you are going to go far in life,” the Vice-Chancellor told the excited students.
He added: “If you look at the motto of the University that talks about knowledge, skills and value, you have already represented and showcased this not only at the regional level but also at the national level. It is a thing of pride for everybody. You have not only done the honour to yourselves but also to this University. Your hard work has really paid off.”
Prof. Agboola emphasised that the students’ victory reflected the strength of the institution’s academic programmes, supportive environment and the mentorship of its faculty. He assured that the University would continue to do its best by supporting students to reach the pinnacle of their respective careers.
He equally charged lecturers and staff of the Department to intensify efforts and consciously identify more students who would take over from the current crop of award-winners.
The award-winning students later took turns to share their experiences with the Vice-Chancellor and other University functionaries in attendance, saying individual qualities and teamwork stood them out in the entire process. They also attributed the victory to the quality of education received at the University.
On her part, Dr. Aramide thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the tremendous support given to the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management to excel. She also applauded the lecturers and other staff for their active involvement, which culminated in the success of the team at the quiz competition.
