The Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a programme specially organized by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF). It was organized with the objective of equipping students in Nigerian tertiary institutions with adequate practical knowledge required for the completion of their different courses of study.
The scheme is a tripartite programme involving the students, the Universities and industries. It is founded by the Federal Government of Nigeria and is jointly coordinated by the Industrial Training Fund and the National University Commission. It is a skill training programme designed to expose and prepare students of tertiary institutions for the industrial situation they are likely to meet after graduation.
The goal of SIWES is to promote industrialization in Nigeria and an avenue between the world of Teaching, learning, industry and work with reference to a field of study such as Engineering, Science, Agriculture, Technology and other professional education programmes. The scheme is therefore a skill training oriented program so as to expose the students on work they would meet after graduation.

The SIWES principal goal is to develop and support the acquisition of industry and Commerce skills to create a pool of well-trained people sufficient to meet the country’s demands.
Our Objectives
The objectives of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) are to:
- Provide an avenue for students in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye to acquire industrial skills and experience in their course of study.
- Prepare students in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.
- Expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may not be available in the universities.
- Make the transition from the university to the world of work easier, and thus enhance students’ contacts for later job placement.
- Provide students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real work situation, thereby bridging the gap between Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye work and actual practice.
- Enlist and strengthen employer’s involvement in the entire educational process of preparing graduates for employment in industry.
Our Functions
The Directorate is mandated to carry out the following functions:
- Seeking of industrial placement for students enrolled in various disciplines scheduled for participation in SIWES.
- Supervision of the students undergoing their industrial training in the various place of IT.
- Processing of students’ logbooks, ITF forms and industrial attachment reports upon which is based on the Federal Government funding of supervision and students’ allowances.
- Fostering of close links between Olabisi Onabanjo University and industries participating in SIWES programme.
- Provision of advisory guidance to participating students on career employment opportunities.
- Monitoring of compliance with the representative of SIWES on the part of students on eligible disciplines as a condition for graduation.
- Facilitation of the disbursement of the students’ allowance to deserving students through e-payment.

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria as well to the Directorate of Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) unit of our great university. The unit is headed by a Director and also has non-academic supporting staff that are involved in day-to-day activities of the Directorate. The Departmental and Faculty coordinators are in-charge of SIWES activities as well as giving reports to the Directorate. The Directorate works in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to ensure that students in Industrial attachment require adequate practical exposure that will enhance their competence and self-reliance after graduation. The Directorate is under the office of the Vice Chancellor. Finally, I congratulate all our students and wish them the best in all their SIWES exercises during their studentship.
