Prof. Bamidele M. ILO FCA, ACS
Professor Bamidele Ilo is a professor in the Department of Banking and Finance. He was recently appointed as the Director of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Business School, having served in an acting capacity for two years of two terms before his recent appointment. Prior to his engagement at the OOUBS he has served as the Acting Head of Department of Cooperative and Rural Development; Department of Banking and Finance; and Department of Accounting and Banking and Finance at various times.
Professor Bamidele Ilo holds a B. Agric. (Agricultural Economics & Farm Management) degree from the then Ogun state University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago-Iwoye. He was in the pioneer class of the Ogun state university MBA class of 1995/1998 set where obtained his Master of Business Administration (Accounting and Finance) degree. He obtained his Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Lagos ,Akoka and Master of Business and Applied Economics (Finance option) from Olabisi Onabanjo University. He proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he bagged an M. Phil.(Administration) degree specializing in Accounting & Finance He obtained his PhD, Business & Applied Economics (Finance Option) from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Professor Bamidele Ilo has been a Consultant to the World Bank, European Union, Federal Ministry of Finance and Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning having consulted on Treasury Single Account(TSA) and Debt Sustainability of Niger Delta States at different times for both ministries. He constantly facilitates at workshops in both private and public sectors on finance, management, and accounting and other related areas. He has also been engaged by several private sector firms for corporate restructuring and reengineering among other consultancy service engagements. He has also served as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in some Nigerian universities. He is also an Examiner for professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers(CIS), Chartered Institute of Bankers(CIBN), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN). He is a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (ACS).
He started his professional career in the industry as an Audit Trainee at Olufuwa & Co (Chartered Accountants), Lagos where he rose to the position of Audit Senior . He later joined the firm of Bode Fakunle & Co (Chartered Accountants & Management Consultants) as an Audit Manager. He was in active private practice for about six years during which he horned his professional accounting practice and later obtained his practicing license from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He left private practice and management consultancy when he was appointed as Finance Manager at Prex Limited, Lagos and rose through the ranks to the position of General Manager (Finance and Administration) in 2002.
After cutting his teeth in professional practice and corporate finance and administration in the industry, a career spanning a whole decade, Professor Ilo considered a career change and joined the services of Olabisi Onabanjo in July 2002 in the department of Banking Finance as a Lecturer II. He subsequently rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Professor of Banking and Finance by Olabisi Onabanjo University with effect from October 1, 2023. He has more forty (40) publications , including journal articles, monographs and textbooks His research interests are in financial markets, banking , investment management, quantitative and development finance.
