The paediatrics department is one of the core departments in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences of the university. The training in paediatrics is pivotal to the programme of medicine and award of MBChB, and so it exposes the students to core courses like neonatology, pulmonology, nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, nutrition and community paediatrics.
Vision
The vision for the department of Paediatrics is to adequately prepare, train and equip every clinical student of the university with the skills and competence required to become doctors who will promote and provide optimal care for children to ensure their survival, growth and development.
Academic Programmes
The training is carried out via didactic lectures, clinical exposures and tutorials. Clinical exposure in the department exposes the students to the acquisition of skills necessary for excellent delivery of care to children globally.

Folashade Adekanmbi is a Professor of Paediatrics ,obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Ilorin(1991), earned fellowship of the West African Postgraduate Medical College (FWACP)(2005) in Paediatrics. She also possesses a master in public health(MPH). she had served as Ag HOD between 2020-2022. She is the current head of department.
My research is focused on diseases affecting the kidneys in children; their growth; HIV medicine in children and adolescents. I have published about 48 articles in both local and international reputable journals. I have also collaborated with local and international researchers.
In my capacity as the head of department of paediatrics, I oversee the academic administration, staff coordination(both academic and non academic). I am passionate about equipping and producing competent clinical students for the global world for the care and survival of children. She is also committed to fostering team work and excellence in the department through collaborative research.
