Dr. Akinyinka Oyedolapo ALABI is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in Neuropharmacology, Ethnopharmacology and Toxicology, with expertise in drug development, safety and efficacy evaluation. He earned his PhD in Neuropharmacology in the year 2021, Building on a strong foundation of experimental research, he worked on the role of compounds with antioxidant and Anti-neuroinflammatory properties in mitigating the occurrence and progression of neurological disorders in rodents .He is currently serving as the Acting Head of Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Olabisi Onabanjo University,Sagamu Campus, Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria.
His research focuses on evaluating the mechanisms by which phytochemicals and pure compounds modulate behavioural and biochemical changes in neurological diseases including their effect on oxidative stress and neuro-inflammation that underpins the pathogenesis of most neurological diseases, with special interest in experimental Parkinson’s studies. He has more than thirty-five publications in national and international reputable journals, and has contributed to advancing knowledge in Neuropharmacology through teaching, mentoring, and collaborative researches.
Dr. Alabi is passionate about applying experimental Parkinson’s research results in improving treatment outcomes of Parkinson’s patients in Africa and globally. His long-term goal is to be a translational researcher, developing safer and more efficacious drugs for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other neurological diseases.
In his capacity as Acting Head of Department, he oversees academic administration, curriculum development, staff coordination, and student mentoring. He is committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaborative research, and innovation within the Department. His leadership is directed toward strengthening the Department’s visibility and expanding its contributions to solving local and global neurological challenges.
