The Library and Information Science was established in the year 2024 as a unit in the Department of Mass Communication. The Unit passionately trains students in the areas of information organisation and retrieval, cataloguing and classification, digital librarianship, knowledge management, information literacy, archives and records management, information and communication technologies, publishing, and other library and information science specialisations. The programme is designed to prepare students for scholarship and to become competent professionals in their chosen fields of information practice.
Vision
To produce graduates who are professionally trained and equipped with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding in Library and Information Science to understand human information behaviour, navigate societal dynamics, and manage complex information environments. Through a deep appreciation of psychosocial and symbolic interactions, our graduates will promote equitable access to information, foster social justice, support lifelong learning, and contribute to a knowledge-driven, inclusive, and sustainable society.
Academic Programmes
The Department offers undergraduate programmes that equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in areas such as cataloguing and classification, information retrieval, digital librarianship, knowledge management, archives and records management, information literacy, publishing, and the use of ICTs in library and information services. The curriculum emphasises hands-on learning through fieldwork, practical exercises, research projects, and innovative applications that reflect global trends in library and information science scholarship and practice.

Facilities for Student Training
The Department is well equipped with modern facilities to support research and teaching:
- Teaching and Research Laboratories: The Department has multimedia and seminar rooms where students are trained on the basics of librarianship, archival, digital library development and management. Emphasis is on the application of ICT and digital innovations to Library and Information Sciences services
- Industry Partnerships: The department has a viable linkage committee which constantly seeks industry partnerships in terms of conferences, seminars, webinars, workshops and training for both staff and students for pedagogical exploration and self-development programmes and engagements.
- Lecture Halls and Classrooms: appreciable spaces for interactive and effective teaching.

Dr Abiodun Odunewu is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Library and Information Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Nigeria. His teaching and research focus on information resource management, digital libraries, open access, knowledge organisation, information literacy, and the application of emerging technologies in library services.
He has published in reputable national and international journals, with his works accessible on platforms such as Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and Academia.edu. His scholarship has contributed significantly to the understanding of open educational resources (OER), digital transformation in libraries, and the role of information systems in development.
Dr Odunewu serves as a reviewer for academic journals and actively participates in professional associations and conferences. Beyond academia, he is committed to community engagement, applying information science and digital tools to support education, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.
