Dr. Oladapo Elijah OYINLOYE is a Lecturer and researcher in Pharmacology and Toxicology, with expertise in inflammation, toxicology, chemotherapy, and natural product pharmacology. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology and Therapeutics in 2019 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where his doctoral thesis focused on the anti-plasmodial, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory activities of methanol extracts and fractions of the leaves of Solanum dasyphyllum.
Since joining Olabisi Onabanjo University in 2013, Dr. Oyinloye has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and mentoring across Pharmacy, B.Sc. Pharmacology, and postgraduate programs. His research investigates the pharmacological activities of medicinal plants, with special emphasis on antimalarial, nephroprotective, hepatoprotective, and molecular toxicological potentials of natural products.
Dr. Oyinloye has completed significant international research, including a funded project by the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation (Germany) at Georg-August University, Göttingen in 2017, which developed molecular tools for pathogen detection to support Ebola control in the DRC and malaria confirmation in Nigeria.
He has published extensively in national and international peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the growing body of knowledge on pharmacological potentials of medicinal plants. His recent works span from antimalarial and chemoprofiling studies on Solanum dasyphyllum, to protective roles of natural products against nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, antioxidant and in silico investigation of medicinal plants.
In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Oyinloye plays a vital role in academic administration at Olabisi Onabanjo University. He currently serves as the Acting Head of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology (since August 2021), and chairs the Faculty of Pharmacy Finance Committee. He is also a member of the B.Pharm. and PharmD curriculum drafting committees and serves on the University’s Students’ Disciplinary Sub-Committee.
Dr. Oyinloye is passionate about translational pharmacology, with a long-term vision of developing indigenous therapeutic agents from African medicinal plants to address local and global health challenges. His commitment to teaching, mentorship, and collaborative research underscores his dedication to advancing pharmacy education, drug discovery, and sustainable healthcare solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
