Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology

The department deals with every aspect of optimised microbial-induced pharmaceutical products, microbial spoilage of pharmaceutical products, and Good Manufacturing Practice. The objectives of this department are:

  • To provide quality teaching and research for the undergraduate students
  • To train students in the norms and principles in pharmaceutical microbiological settings
  • To undertake research in the development of pharmaceutical products from natural sources
  • To provide professional counselling services to food, pharmaceutical and allied parapharmaceutical establishments.

Academic Programmes

The Department offers an undergraduate program in Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology. Undergraduate students are exposed to practicals in the core area of pharmaceutical microbiology, gaining experience in pharmaceutical industrial settings.

Olufemi Lionel Okunye is an Assoc. Prof. of Pharmaceutical Microbiology in the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Pharmacy Olabisi Onabanjo University. He joined the University in 2012 after many years of active services in industrial and private sectors. Okunye is a graduate of University of Ibadan with a B.Sc (1999), Masters (2003) and a PhD in Pharmaceutics microbiology (2012). He has several Journal articles and book chapters to his credit. His research interests are Natural products, Molecular study, Public health and nanotechnology.
