Department of Public Administration

The Department of Public Administration provides training in the principles and practice of public management, governance, and policy implementation. Through lectures, seminars, case studies, and research projects, students develop skills in leadership, organisational management, and public sector decision-making. The department offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, preparing graduates for careers in government, civil service, international organisations, and other sectors that require strong administrative and analytical expertise.

Our History

The Department of Public Administration, as an autonomous academic unit in the University, can be traced to 1st November, 2017, when the University Senate divided the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences into two, i.e. the Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences, putting an end to the programme being housed in the Department of Political Science. Though, relatively young, the Department is poised towards providing training in policy analysis, personnel management, office administration, intergovernmental relations, conflict management, security administration, ethics and accountability, public financial management, local government administration, governance and statecraft etc. aimed at broadening and deepening the intellectual exposure of our students, to develop their capability to analyze and apply the skills and knowledge acquired in solving administrative problems in the public and private sectors including the non-profit making realm of contemporary society.

Academic Programmes

The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (B.Sc., PGD, MPA, M.Sc. and Ph.D) to inculcate in the students the theoretical knowledge and skills required in administrative theories, policy analysis, personnel management, office administration, intergovernmental relations, conflict management, security administration, ethics and accountability, public financial management, local government administration, governance and statecraft. Students are exposed to learning through classroom interaction, practical orientation, and research that align with global trends in public administration.

The Department is well equipped with modern facilities to support research and teaching:

  1. Teaching Classrooms: for effective teaching and other teacher-student interactions
  2. Seminar Rooms: adequately equipped for presentations, pre-field and post-field seminars
  3. Library: for independent study and further research by staff and students.

Dr. Fatai Olubunmi ADESANMI is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Administration with a special interest in exploring administrative machinery for socio-economic development. His areas of specialisation are governance, public policy, security and development administration. He earned his Ph.D degree focusing on Administration of Oil Derivation Funds and Socio-economic Development of Oil Producing Communities in 2016 from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He is at present the Acting Head of Department of Public Administration, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria.

His core areas of interest, in which he has researched and published, span across ‘Governance, Public Policy, Security Administration and Development,’ which are vital in Public Administration. These areas are intertwined and directly connected to the attainment of stability and sustainability of human society. He has more than twenty publications in reputable institutional based journals, both nationally and internationally, thereby contributing to the repertoire of literature and advancing knowledge in Public Administration.

As the Acting Head of Department, he oversees the administration of the Department for better performance. He is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor on issues bothering on curriculum development, examination matters, staff coordination, student mentoring and any other assignment that may be given from time to time. He is committed to putting the Department on a pedestal for recognition globally through productive research output.
