The Department of Building is a pivotal department in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The Department provides rigorous training in construction technology, project management, building services, building structures, materials, facilities management, and professional practice, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to the construction industry, sustainable development, and the advancement of the built environment.
Vision
To be a leading centre of excellence in teaching and research in Building Technology and Management, producing graduates who are globally competitive and locally relevant in addressing the challenges of project delivery, sustainable construction, and infrastructure development.
Academic Programmes
The Department presently offers an undergraduate programme in Building designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in construction management, building production, building services, building surveying, building maintenance/facilities management, and sustainable construction. Students are exposed to hands-on learning through studio work, laboratory experiments, workshop practical practices, field projects, and industrial training that align with global trends in the built environment.

The Department is well equipped with modern facilities to support research and teaching:
- Construction Materials Laboratory: for testing the strength and properties of building materials.
- Building Services Laboratory: for practical studies in electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Studio: equipped with software for architectural and structural drawings, BIM, and project planning.
- Workshop: for practical training in building production and craftsmanship.
- Lecture Halls and Classrooms: conducive spaces for interactive and effective teaching.

Dr. Fidelis Olukayode FAYOMI is a Lecturer I and researcher in Construction Project Management and Building Technology, with expertise in construction project management, sustainable development, facilities management, and quality assurance in the built environment, building on a strong foundation from his M.Tech in Project Management Technology and BSc in Building. He is currently serving as the Acting Head of the Department of Building, College of Engineering and Environmental Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun Campus, Ogun State, Nigeria. State, Nigeria.
A distinguished fellow of multiple professional Institutions, he is a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Nigerian Institution of Builders in Facilities Management, Chartered Institute of Administration, Chartered Institute of Management Consultants, and Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management. He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) and the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration. He is a fully registered Builder (F1621), Registered Quantity Surveyor (QS 5121), and a Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA – Built Industry).
Dr. Fayomi has held significant leadership positions within his profession, including serving as Vice Chairman (2013-2014) and subsequently as Chairman (2015-2017) of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building. His service extends to the National level, where he has been a Team member of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) N-Power monitoring committee (2018-2021) and a member of Projects monitoring committee (2021- 2023). Most recently, he was appointed as a member of the Ogun State Skill Fund (OSF)- Plumbing trade training and Assessment evaluation criteria development committee (2024), reflecting his commitment to vocational development and standards in the built industry.
His research focuses on innovative approaches to construction project management, sustainable development practices in the built environment, and facilities management. He has numerous publications in National and International reputable journals and has contributed to advancing knowledge in building technology and construction project management through teaching, mentoring, and industry collaboration.
In his capacity as Acting Head of Department, he oversees academic administration, curriculum development, staff coordination, and students mentoring. He is committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, professional competency, collaborative research, and innovation within the Department. His leadership is directed toward strengthening the Department’s visibility and expanding its contributions to solving local and global built environment challenges.
