The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the foundational Departments in the Faculty of Engineering, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The Department provides rigorous training in the area of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to global development.

Dr Ignatius Kema OKAKWU is a Senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with expertise in power and renewable energy systems, electrical machines and reliability of systems. He earned his B.Eng. degree in 2009 from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state, M.Sc. degree in 2014 from the University of Lagos, Akoka and a PhD degree (Power and Machines option) in 2019 from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo state.
He is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE).
Dr Okakwu is deeply committed to advancing sustainable energy development in Nigeria through the application of renewable energy systems and hydrogen technologies as key enablers of the energy transition.
In his capacity as Acting Head of Department, he oversees academic administration, curriculum development, staff coordination, and student mentoring. He is committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaborative research, and innovation within the Department. His leadership is directed toward strengthening the Department’s visibility and expanding its contributions to solving local and global energy challenges.
