The Department of Agricultural Engineering is one of the foundational Departments in the Faculty of Engineering, dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The Department provides rigorous training in agricultural machinery, food processing and storage, structural engineering applications in agriculture, biological systems engineering, environmental engineering, soil and water conservation engineering, rural infrastructural engineering, and innovative engineering solutions to address food security and environmental challenges, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development, environmental sustainability, and scientific advancement.
Vision
To be a leading centre of excellence in teaching and research in Agric Engineering, producing graduates who are globally competitive and locally relevant in addressing food security, agricultural, ecological, and environmental challenges.
Academic Programmes
The Department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in food processing and storage, machine design and development, structural engineering application to agriculture, rural development, drone and robotics application in agriculture, and aquaponics. Students are exposed to hands-on learning through field courses, laboratory research, and innovative projects that align with global trends in plant sciences.

Engr. Babalola Ayoola A. is a Lecturer and researcher in Agricultural Power and Machinery systems engineering with core competence in machine design, development and evaluation, simulation and optimisation, agricultural mechanisation, energy utilisation, instrumentation and electronics and post-harvest systems engineering respectively. He is currently rounding off his PhD in Agricultural Power and Machinery from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, working on a research titled Development of an Instrumented System for Measuring Tractor Tillage Performance in Southwest Nigeria.
He is also serving as the Acting Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria. His research focuses on the development of sustainable machine systems with emphasis on low-power mechanisation alternatives for agricultural development. He has more than thirty-five publications in national and international reputable journals, and has contributed to advancing the frontiers of knowledge in agricultural power and machinery engineering through teaching, mentoring, and collaborative projects.
Engr. Babalola is passionate about developing cutting-edge agricultural and biological systems engineering solutions using the latest tools and techniques of modern science and technology. His long-term goal is to strengthen research capacity in agricultural machinery and sustainable development while promoting innovations that address on-farm mechanisation needs, industry automation requirements and global food security challenges respectively.
In his capacity as Acting Head of Department, he oversees academic administration, curriculum development, staff coordination, and student mentoring. Engr. Babalola is committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, collaborative research, and innovation within the Department. His leadership is directed toward strengthening the Department’s visibility and expanding its contributions to solving local and global food security and environmental sustainability challenges.
