Oladipo Olusola Olubomehin obtained a B. A. (Hons) in History from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago Iwoye, in 1986. He thereafter successfully completed the M.A. and Ph.D degrees from the University of Ibadan in 1988 and 1999 respectively. He joined the services of Olabisi Onabanjo University in October 1987 as a Graduate Assistant and rose to the rank of a Professor in October 2013. Before his appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), he taught numerous African History and historical methodology courses in the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Nigeria, and has successfully completed the supervision of many Masters and two Ph.D students.
Administrative Roles
Prof. Olubomehin has served the University in many administrative positions including Head, Department of History and Diplomatic Studies at various times between 2000 and 2016, Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2016 to 2021, member OOU Governing Council from 2017 to 2021, Chairman of the Committee on the Review of University Publication Policy, Member, Committee on the Preparation of 10 years Strategic Plan for the University from January to July, 2023, Chairman, Senate Business Committee from September, 2021 to November, 2024 and many others.
Research and Awards
Prof. Olubomehin has published over forty articles in leading local and international journals. He has authored/edited six books including a work with the well-respected Africanist scholar, Prof. Toyin Falola. Prof. Olubomehin has served as professorial external assessor for several universities in the country as well as external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate examinations in many universities.
Prof. Olubomehin has a number of awards and distinctions to his credit including the Best Graduating Student, Department of History, Ogun State University (1986), Chief T. E. A. Salubi Prize in History for 1987/88 Session awarded for the best M.A. Dissertation on topic dealing with Nigerian History at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Long Service Award, in recognition of the contribution to the development of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye. 4th April, 2013.
Professional Memberships
He is member of several professional bodies including Historical Society of Nigeria (since 1987), International Association for Transport, Traffic and Mobility (2004 and 2005), Economic History Society of the United Kingdom (2004 – 2006) and Organisation for Historical Research in Nigeria (since 2012).
He is happily married with children.
