The department is located in the Faculty of Agricultural Management and Rural Development under the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and community service, and it is as old as the University. The students are engaged in learning various economic theories and analytical tools applied to agriculture through the teaching of microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and data processing, production economics, farm management, agribusiness analysis, farm records and accounting, quantitative techniques, agricultural marketing, agricultural cooperation, farm appraisal and valuation, farm enterprise planning, natural resource economics, agricultural investment analysis and finance as well as field practical among others.
Vision
The vision is to develop students’ management capacities by exposing them to sound theoretical principles and practical training experience, which will enable them to acquire the needed skills to operate proficiently as resource managers, scientific farmers and managers of agricultural projects and natural resources. By this vision, we have been able to produce graduates who are locally relevant and globally competitive, thereby characterising the institution as a centre of academic excellence.
Academic Programmes
